Study Skills
The following are some ideas about the preparation that you can make to maximise the benefit that you can gain from the course:
- It is best if you can find a quiet area in which to work, preferably without
interruptions.
- Organise your work into folders so that you do not spend time looking
for relevant information.
- Manage your time. Evidence suggests that 20 minutes is the maximum attention
span; so allocate blocks of time that you can devote to your studying.
- Each module is designed to take about 20 hours of study. Since this is
a flexible, self paced course you can take as long or as short a time as
you wish to complete each module.
- At times, you will be asked to write short reports on the work you have
carried out during section review exercises. Make sure that your report
is well structured. It should contain a beginning that informs the reader
of what you are going to tell them. It should have a middle where you develop
your answer in a clear and logical fashion. Finally, the report should have
an end that summarises the major points covered. Try to use sections because
this will help you with your report structure.
- There is no set time by which you have to complete a module. Some parts of the course you will find harder than others. We expect this to happen, but remember that your on-line tutor is there to help and assist you.
Plagiarism
The University has strict rules on plagiarism. All the work you submit for assignment must be your own unaided work. However, you may seek guidance from your on-line tutor if you encounter problems when working on an assignment.
